The F1 Association of Uganda (F1UG) kicked off the 2024 Karting championship season with an exciting inaugural Karting launch on Sunday, April 21st, 2024, at the Meraki Karting Track. The day began with a thrilling Formula One race viewing, featuring the Chinese Grand Prix, followed by a press conference, brunch, and the official launch ceremony on a rooftop catered affair.

Distinguished guests in attendance included FMU Secretary General Leila Mayanja, Honourable Jimmy Akena, club presidents, top FMU officials, and club presidents. The first race of the season was flagged off by the esteemed guest of honor, Leila Mayanja, alongside Raymond Mugisha, President of F1UG, and Moses Byaruhanga, Proprietor of Meraki Karting Track.

Racing enthusiasts witnessed thrilling competitions in the junior, intermediate, and senior classes, with all winners receiving well-deserved medals. The senior’s race, in particular, provided moments of laughter and excitement, showcasing skillful driving and lighthearted camaraderie among participants.

The event, which commenced at 9 am and concluded at 4:30 pm, was followed by a refreshing treat of soft drinks courtesy of Pepsi for all guests. Special appreciation was extended to Moses Byaruhanga, the proprietor of Meraki Racing Track, and the entire staff of Meraki, as well as FMU for their support and event promotion. Gratitude was also expressed to the press, media, F1UG membership, and all the racers who made the day a memorable success.

Looking ahead, the championship will continue in May with races in Lubowa, followed by the second race at Meraki and concluding with the final season race in Busika. Stay tuned for more thrilling racing action as the 2024 Karting championship season unfolds!
